As a red wine drinker, you probably also run into this problem: purple teeth and a blue tongue after an evening of socialising. As much as we love drinking red wine, the shocked looks after a burst of laughter are a bit of a shame. With these tips, you can keep your teeth white. Above all, take advantage of them!
1. Eating cheese
As if we needed another excuse for that cheese board? Eating hard cheese (like comté, for example) puts a layer of calcium around your teeth, making tannin (the substance that causes the tarnish) less able to adhere.
2. Brush your teeth
Brush your teeth well just before you start drinking red wine. This is because the tannins in red wine stick to plaque. Removing this will therefore prevent your teeth from turning purple.
3. Drink water
Your evening won’t end loitering and swallowing, but drinking a glass of water every now and then will also wash away the red wine. This way, you are less likely to have purple stains and will leave the party classy ;-).
4. Wipe away
Beaten all our tips and still walking around with purple stains on your teeth? Using kitchen paper or a napkin to rub your teeth works wonders too.
5. Lipstick
Perhaps today’s easiest tip, but with a layer of lipstick or lip gloss on your lips, you are armed against the dreaded purple mouth!
