Above all, do not stay in your bed when you are hungover. No matter how tempting! Start the day as you normally would; take a shower, get dressed and have a hearty breakfast. Taking a breath of fresh air in the garden helps too!
Outdoor air always does the trick. And especially when your head feels a bit woolly. So put on your walking shoes and head for the woods or the beach. A few good breaths and you’ll see: you’ll appear fresh and fruity at your in-laws’ New Year’s drinks.
Working out! That might be the last thing you feel like doing, but it is a good method to get rid of your hangover fast. Make sure you have a fibre- and protein-rich breakfast first (read: wholemeal bread with a fried egg) and then go for a leisurely run or bike ride.
The Wine Pole is suitable not only for wine, but also for bottles of water. And that’s convenient, because drinking lots of water helps your body recover. So start the new year with at least three glasses of water to help rebalance your body’s fluid levels.
Fruit, fibre and protein are the medicine against hangovers. At first, your stomach may turn at the sight of the breakfast table, but after some fresh air and a few glasses of water, your body is ready for a hearty breakfast. Orange juice, eggs, wholemeal bread and coffee seem to help get rid of your New Year’s hangover.
Either way, remember that a hangover is short-lived. The moment of waking up is the toughest, after that things can only get better. Before you know it, you will start the new year full of fresh courage!
